The influence of my latest series of paintings is a dream that I remember from around 30 years ago (I know it's difficult to believe that someone could remember a dream from such a long time ago). From what I remember, in the dream we were all lined up in single file in a dark corridor and a doctor (if it was a doctor) came to lead us away one by one. As to where he was taking us I don't know. For years I have believed the doctor to be of a more sinister nature, but in more recent years I have come to see him as more of an entity, something like fate or the giver of our own destiny. I awoke when it was my turn to be lead away, I see this as significant. Through my artwork I try to visualise how this makes me feel. Although the subject matter may be linked directly to my own experiences I do feel that my works have a strong generic empathy with other people's life experiences. They in no way empathise with feelings of angst or negativity, simply singular factual thoughts purged into a visual format. Each painting can tell its own story and all are a part of the bigger picture. Because my work is of a more instinctive nature I tend to paint on whatever support I have available e.g. srtetched canvas, hardboard, MDF.
